What is Boligspar Ekstra?

Boligspar Ekstra (previously BSU Start) is home savings without tax relief for you aged 0–34 years. The account is well suited as additional savings for a home if you have reached the maximum on your regular BSU home savings scheme for young people.You can save up to a total of NOK 300 000 in the account whenever you wish.

You can have Boligspar Ekstra independently of the regular BSU home savings scheme for young people.

The money you deposit in Boligspar Ekstra is not tied to home purchase until the end of the year. This means you can withdraw this money before 31 December.

Save for your children with Home Savings Extra

Home Savings Extra is a good option if you want to save for a future home for your children or grandchildren in a separate account. You can start saving for children in Home Savings Extra from when the child is 0 years old. When the child turns 18, they will have control of the account themselves.

Remember that the child must be a customer and have an account with DNB before you open Home Savings Extra. If the child is not a customer, you can easily open aChildren's Savings Account. The account must be in the child's name.

How to order Boligspar Ekstra for minors

Guardians must be existing DNB customers to order Boligspar Ekstra. If the child has two guardians, both must sign. The child must be a customer and have another account with DNB before ordering Boligspar Ekstra. This is used as a return account if the savings exceed the account limit.

If we do not already have the child's Norwegian birth certificate, you will be asked to upload it. You are welcome to upload a mobile photo.

Do I need to fill up my BSU home savings scheme for young people before I can save in Boligspar Ekstra

No, you do not. Boligspar Ekstra is an account you can save in independently of the ordinary BSU home savings scheme for young people.

Can I transfer from Boligspar Ekstra to a regular BSU home savings scheme for young people?

Yes. You can use the amount saved in Boligspar Ekstra from previous years to fill up the quota on the ordinary BSU home savings scheme for young people if both accounts are with DNB.

After the transfer, you can continue saving to Boligspar Ekstra if you have available quota.

Can I save for children in Boligspar Ekstra?

You can start saving for children in Boligspar Ekstra from when the child is 0 years old. From the age of 18, the child will have control of the account themselves. Please note that the child must be a customer and have an account with DNB before you open Boligspar Ekstra. If the child is not a customer, you can easily open a Children's Savings Account.

Do I receive a tax deduction as with the standard BSU home savings scheme for young people?

No. Boligspar Ekstra does not provide tax relief on the saved amount.

What can I use the money from Boligspar Ekstra for?

For partial withdrawals not related to housing purposes, a fee is charged. After withdrawal, you cannot save more to the account. If you wish to close the entire account, the saved funds can be used freely regardless of purpose and without a fee. You cannot then open this account type again.

What happens to Boligspar Ekstra when I turn 34?

When you turn 34, the Boligspar Ekstra account is converted into aSavings account.

How do I close Boligspar Ekstra?

If you close a Boligspar Ekstra account, you cannot open a new account of the same type later. You can close your Boligspar Ekstra account in online banking, and you will receive a confirmation by email when the account is closed.
