What is Boligspar Ekstra?

Boligspar Ekstra (formerly BSU Start) is a home savings scheme without tax deductions for people aged 0-34 years. The account is ideal for additional housing savings if you have filled up your regular BSU home savings schemeYou can save up to a total of NOK 300,000 in the account whenever you want.

You can have Boligspar Ekstra independently of the regular BSU home savings scheme.

The money you put into Boligspar Ekstra is not tied to housing until the end of the year. This means that you can take out the money before 31 December.

Save for children in Boligspar Ekstra

Home saving Extra is a good option if you want to save for future home for children or grandchildren in your own account. You can start saving for children in Boligspar Ekstra from when the child is 0 years old. When the child turns 18, they will manage the account themselves.

Remember that the child must be a customer and have a DNB account before you open Boligspar Ekstra. If the child is not a customer, you can easily open Barnas Sparekonto (Children’s savings account). The account must be in the child’s name.

How to order Boligspar Ekstra for minors

The guardian must already be a DNB customer to order Boligspar Ekstra. If the child has two guardians, both must sign. The child must be a customer and have another DNB account before ordering Boligspar Ekstra. This is used as a return account if savings exceed the account limit.

If we do not already have a Norwegian birth certificate registered, you will be asked to upload this. You can upload a photo taken on your mobile.

Do I have to fill up my BSU home savings scheme before I save in Boligspar Ekstra?

No, you don’t have to. Boligspar Ekstra is an account you can save in independently of the regular BSU home savings scheme.

Can I transfer from Boligspar Ekstra to the normal BSU home savings scheme?

Yes. You can use the initial amount in Boligspar Ekstra from previous years to fill up the allowance in the normal BSU home savings scheme.

After transfer, you can save on going to Boligspar Extra if you have available quota.

Can I save for children in Boligspar Ekstra?

You can start saving for children in Boligspar Ekstra from when the child is 0 years old. When the child turns 18, they will manage the account themselves. Remember that the child must be a customer and have a DNB account before you open Boligspar Ekstra. If the child is not a customer, you can easily open Barnas Sparekonto (Children’s savings account).

Do I get tax deductions like on a normal BSU home savings scheme?

No. Boligspar Ekstra does not give tax deductions on initial amounts.

What can I use the money from Boligspar Ekstra for?

For partial withdrawals that are not for housing purposes, a fee is charged. After withdrawing, you cannot save more in the account. If you want to close the whole account, the initial funds can be used freely regardless of the purpose. At that point you cannot open this type of account again.

What happens to Boligspar Ekstra when I turn 34 years old?

At age 34, the Boligspar Ekstra account turns into a Savings account.

How do I close Boligspar Ekstra?

If you close a Boligspar Ekstra account, you cannot open a new account of the same type later. You can close your Boligspar Ekstra account in the online bank, and you will get an email confirmation when the account is closed.
