What is treatment insurance?

Treatment insurance is a health insurance for individuals that provides faster treatment and clarification in the event of illness or injury. You avoid the public health waiting time and receive prompt treatment in the private healthcare system, with no excess.

Fast waiting times

Waiting times are often long in the public health service. If you have a referral from your doctor, you can get rapid help in the private healthcare system with medical treatment insurance. Share the referral with us to receive a personal nurse who will ensure that you are taken care of as soon as possible:

Are there any limits to the cover?
  • Circumstances that the company has avoided when evaluating the health information. Any reservation will appear from the insurance certificate.
  • Sum insured for the individual coverages. These appear from the insurance certificate.
  • Only treatment approved by Fremtind is covered by the insurance
  • Insurance claims that the insured person caused or exacerbated through gross negligence or intent
What are my obligations?

When purchasing insurance, you must provide accurate and complete answers to the company's questions. The insurance certificate specifies which information is used as a basis. If anything is incorrect, you must inform us immediately.

Security regulations are damage prevention and damage limitation measures you must take, and you will find these in the insurance certificate.

In the event of injury you must contact us as soon as possible. If you do not comply with your obligations, the settlement payment may be reduced, fully or partly.

What does the insurance not cover?
  • Treatment for illnesses, injuries, or ailments that occurred prior to the insurance's approval
  • Consultation with a general practitioner/company doctor and a general medicine specialist
  • Psychiatric treatment
  • Treatment at a public hospital
  • Medication in addition to medication administered at the treatment site

  • Medical opinions, certificates or licences not ordered by Fremtind
Where is the insurance valid?

The insurance applies to treatment in Norway, Sweden and Denmark (Scandinavia).

If no expertise is available in Scandinavia, referrals can be made to other private treatment institutions in Europe with whom the company has an agreement.

How to use the medical treatment insurance

1. See your GP

  • If you are ill, injured or have a problem, you must first contact your GP. If necessary, you will be referred to a specialist or receive additional treatment by the GP.

2. Contact us with the referral

  • You can contact us by reporting the case after receiving a referral. As soon as you send the doctor's referral, you will be assigned a personal nurse who will ensure that you are referred to the appropriate specialist as soon as possible. This way you avoid waiting in the public health service queue.

  • When you have sent us the referral, you will soon receive an appointment with the appropriate specialist.

Health assistance from Dr.Dropin

With treatment insurance, you get access to health assistance from Dr.Dropin. You do not need a referral to use the service.

Free and 24-hour medical helpline

If you have treatment insurance, the medical helpline is a free service. Experienced nurses can answer any questions you have about your illness or health.

The service is provided by Dr.Dropin, and is available all year round, at any time of day or night. Call the medical helpline on 21 02 55 77.

Video consultation with doctor and crisis psychologist

When you call the medical helpline, if necessary you will be referred for a video consultation with a doctor or crisis psychologist. Download the Dr.Dropin app and follow the instructions from the nurse.

Digital psychologist

With treatment insurance, you have the option of five free consultations with a psychologist per year. You do not need a referral to use the service. This can be beneficial for those who are dealing with difficult thoughts, anxiety, stress, or similar.

Which treatment facilities are used?

We have a large medical network in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark consisting of a variety of healthcare providers. Which treatment facility you will be referred to depends on what kind of specialist you need.

What is meant by personal nurse?

If you become ill or are involved in an accident, it is both beneficial and safe to seek additional medical attention. With treatment insurance, you are covered from the very beginning. As soon as you submit the doctor's referral, a personal nurse will follow up with you and refer you to the appropriate specialist. The nurse also assists you with all practical matters, such as booking transportation and overnight stays, so that you can focus on getting well and returning to your normal life as soon as possible.

Do I have to fill in a health declaration form?

When you buy personal insurance, you are required by law to provide health information. You do this by filling in a health declaration form. You will be notified when the health form is open for you to fill in.

Who can buy the insurance?

Medical treatment insurance can be purchased by anyone between the ages of 16 and 69, and the insurance lasts until the age of 70. A health declaration form must be completed when purchasing insurance. This form must be fully completed before you can use the insurance.

How much does medical treatment insurance cost?

You must log in to calculate the cost of medical treatment insurance. The cost of the insurance is determined by the information we have about you and is influenced by factors such as your health condition and whether or not you smoke. Everyone who purchases treatment insurance is required to fill out a health declaration form.
