Disability insurance

Disability insurance provides you with a dependable income even if you become unable to work due to illness or accident.

Health insurance 3
  • Get compensation for lost income due to disability

  • Secure your standard of living

  • Choose monthly disbursements, a lump sum or both

What is disability insurance?

Disability insurance provides compensation if you become unable to work due to illness or accident.

Securing your income is one of the most important things you can do. If you become incapacitated for work, you will not be able to work as before, and much of your income will therefore be lost. The public sector and NAV (the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration) do not cover the entire income you had when you were working – you may need to get by with about half.

The disability insurance covers the difference so you can live on the same income as before. You can then maintain your standard of living, continue to pay your home mortgage and other expenses, and be more financially secure.

Choose between three combinations of disability insurance

You can choose between three different combinations of disability insurance: disability lump sum with advance payment and one-off payment, disability pension that provides disbursements, or the combination of disability pension with a disability lump sum.

We make the choice easier for you by recommending the insurance that suits you best.

Choosing disability insurance

Disability insurance supplements your income from the government and your employer. You can choose between two forms of disability insurance, disability pension and single payment permanent disability benefit, but it is also common to combine these.

Both disability pension and single payment permanent disability benefit provide full disbursements from 50% continuous incapacity for work for the agreed-upon period, avoiding a percentage or graded disbursement if something should happen. It provides independence and peace of mind in a new life as someone who is incapacitated for work.

Purchase of disability insurance

Disability pension can be ordered online. Contact an insurance adviser if you are interested in a single payment permanent disability benefit or the combination of disability insurance.

Do I have to be fully incapacitated for work to receive disbursements?

You do not have to be 100% incapacitated for work to use your disability insurance.

The disability pension can be used from when you are at least 50% temporary or permanently incapacitated for work.

If you have a disability lump sum, you can get an advance payment with monthly disbursements from 50% disability. One-off sum paid if you become permanently incapacitated for work.

Do I have to fill in a health declaration form?

Disability lump sum disbursements with advance payment start with a monthly advance payment of the sum insured when you have been at least 50% incapacitated for work for 12 months. The disbursement of the lump sum is made in its entirety after two years of being continuously incapacitated for work to at least 50% and the degree of disability is considered to be permanent.
