European payment

Lady with a computer at airport
  • Payment in Europe from NOK 0

  • Usually on the recipient’s account the next day

We offer two types of products for outgoing payments in Europe: SEPA payments and European payments.

These are cost-effective solutions for payments from DNB accounts in Norway abroad.

When you register a payment to Europe in the mobile bank, you will automatically receive the correct payment option and price. However, it may be useful to know the difference between the two types.

European payments

The requirements for Europe payments in DNB are the same as for SEPA, except that the payment need not be in euros. The following requirements apply to this type of payment:

Foreign exchange The payment must be in the recipient bank's local currency.

  • Examples: DKK for Denmark, GBP for the UK, PLN for Poland.

Account number: Must be stated as IBAN.

Recipient bank: A European bank must be identified with a BIC code.

  • Payments can be made to all European countries.
  • Payments to sanctioned countries will not be possible.

See price list here. European Payment Price List

SEPA payment

An SEPA payment is a standardised euro payment within Europe, established by the EU and the European Payments Council to make transfers as simple and efficient as domestic payments. From 1 August 2025, SEPA payments will be free at DNB.

In order for a payment to be registered as a SEPA payment, it must meet the following formal requirements:

Foreign exchange The payment must be in euro (EUR). Must be stated as an IBAN (International Bank Account Number).

Example of a Norwegian IBAN: NO49 7001 XXXX XXX.

The IBAN always begins with the recipient bank’s country code and is followed by numbers, often grouped four and four.

More information about IBAN can be found here: Find your IBAN here

Recipient bank: Must be part of SEPA and identified with a BIC (Bank Identifier Code).

This applies to the majority of banks in the EU, the EEA (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), as well as Switzerland, the UK, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican City.

Example: DNB’s BIC code is DNBANOKKXXX.

Cost allocation: Must be shared between sender and recipient

Tips

When you add the IBAN to the recipient in the mobile bank, the associated BIC code will be added to the payment automatically.
