What is BankID?

BankID is a personal, electronic proof of identity and signature that allows secure identification and signing online. BankID is used across the banks you have accounts with, and as a sign-in option on most public websites.

BankID is offered by banks in Norway and is based on a common infrastructure that has been developed collectively by the banking industry.

How to get BankID

There are certain requirements that are imposed in order to be able to get BankID in DNB:

  • You must be a customer of DNB Become a customer here.

  • You must be over 12 years of age. For the age group 12–17 years, there are some restrictions. Read more here

  • You must have your ID checked in person at a DNB branch.

    Valid identity documents:

    • Norwegian national ID card
    • Passport
    • Norwegian immigrant's passport
    • Travel document for refugees
  • You must have a Norwegian national identity number. If you have a temporary social security number (D-number) you can use the login option Without BankID (one-time code from the code device and four-digit personal code).

  • You must have an online bank agreement and code device from DNB.

If you don’t have an online banking agreement, it can be ordered here.

You can order a code device by clicking on the ‘Settings’ tab, ‘BankID’ and ‘Order a new code device’ in the online bank.

If you don’t have access to the online bank, you can contact us by phone on 915 04800.

How do I log in with BankID?

There are two different login methods using BankID.

    • BankID code device
    • BankID app

Common to both login methods is that you must also enter your personal password with a minimum of eight characters.

If you are unsure of which login method you are using today, see here (PDF).

Tips

The login option Without BankID (code device and four-digit personal code) only works on DNB’s platforms. This is not the same as BankID.

Have you forgotten your BankID password?

  • If you have forgotten your password, you can create a new one in the online bank or in the BankID app.

Use of BankID

Identification is checked by using BankID as your credentials, for example when you log into the online bank or on a website that uses BankID.

Signing is used when you use BankID as your personal signature, for example when you buy goods and services online.

Your BankID is personal and may not be moved or otherwise transferred to or used by anyone other than you, even not family members or others you trust.

Do you already have a BankID?
