Signatory authority

At various phases of life, the need for help may arise. An account signatory can help with payments, bills, statements etc. Remember that an account signatory must use their own BankID.

Hand in hand
  • Help from your own online bank

  • Keep track and pay bills from accounts you manage

Are you someone who helps elderly people with online banking? Perhaps your mother or your father is visually impaired or finds using a computer a bit difficult? By being an account signatory, you can help from your own online bank. You can keep track and pay bills from accounts you manage.

An account signatory will have access to pay from the account and see transactions prior to the the authorisation being registered.

Remember that the account signatory must be a customer of DNB.

BankID is personal

BankID is an electronic ID and signature, in the same way as showing your passport or signing with a pen. Even if most people have good intentions, in some cases a helper can create problems for the person being helped.

BankID must not be transferred or given to others – neither the bank, spouse, account signatory or anyone else. For help with BankID, password and code device, the owner must contact us. Here we cannot assist if other family members are calling on their behalf.

What is Legal Power of Attorney?

Legal power of attorney makes it possible for a close relative to handle financial matters for a person who, due to illness or impaired health, can no longer do it by themselves.

This may be relevant in the case of, for example, dementia or acute illness, and a medical certificate is required as documentation.

Related parties is considered a spouse or cohabitant, children, grandchildren or parents. The power of attorney allows you to pay bills, cover daily expenses, pay tax and service existing loans. It does not give the right to use BankID, make investments or buy and sell assets.

Questions and answers

How can you become an account signatory?

The account holder can register their own account signatory in the online bank. The account signatory must be registered and identified at DNB before the authorisation is registered in the online bank or sent to us by regular post.

Without online banking

For customers without online banking, a form needs to be filled in and sent to us by regular post. The form must be signed by the account holder and witnessed by two people of legal age. The witnesses cannot be a spouse/cohabitant, parent or child/grandchild of the authorised user. It will take 1-2 weeks before the account signatory is registered on the account.

What is a future power of attorney?

A future power of attorney gives you the opportunity to decide who will safeguard your finances and your personal interests if you are not able to do this yourself in the future. Future power of attorney is an alternative to guardianship. It is important that the authorisation is adapted to your situation and wishes, and that it complies with the requirements for content and design.

There is a lot of useful information about this on the website of the County Governor -Statsforvalterens. We recommend that you become familiar with this. In order for the future authorisation to be valid for financial matters at DNB, it must be confirmed by the County Governor -Statsforvalterens.
